Two Settlements That Became One Village
Rockton formed from two separate 1835 settlements -- Stephen Mack Jr.'s river-confluence Macktown and William Talcott's water-power-driven Rockton -- that merged after an 1851 bridge washout and incorporated together in 1872.
Practices That Don't Match Across the River
Because the two halves developed independently before merging, moisture-control practices in the older Macktown-descended lots near the Rock-Pecatonica confluence may not match the Talcott-founded east-side core even on nearby streets.

Let us know which side of the historic Rockton-Macktown confluence your home sits on, since the two original settlements didn't necessarily share the same building practices.
